Why is one of the biggest lacrosse games of the season on a little-known streaming platform? (2025)

Syracuse, N.Y. — If you want to watch No. 1 Cornell vs. No. 4 Syracuse on Saturday, you have two options.

  1. You can go to Mitchel Field in Uniondale, New York and buy a ticket.
  2. You can sign up for a little-known streaming platform and pay $18.

Syracuse-Cornell will be available via an internet stream on Corrigan Sports Network, the company hosting the neutral-site game between the two old lacrosse rivals as part of its College Lacrosse Live Series.

The service is free to sign up for but charges a fee to access game broadcasts.

How did one of the biggest lacrosse games of the year, between two schools about 50 miles apart, end up on Long Island and relegated to a streaming platform?

There’s a few reasons.

At first, the JMA Dome was not available on April 12 due to a scheduled Billy Joel and Sting concert. The concert was rescheduled due to Joel’s health, and the Syracuse football spring game has since been relocated to the dome that day.

With the dome unavailable on April 12 at the time the Orange lacrosse schedule was being constructed, Syracuse and Cornell agreed to meet on a neutral site at a date and site where it was beneficial for both to play.

Cornell played Notre Dame at Long Island University last year in a event put on by Corrigan Sports that drew more than 8,000 fans.

“They had a great turnout on Long Island for the Notre Dame-Cornell game,” Syracuse coach Gary Gait said. “I said, well, we should do Syracuse-Cornell next year. Everybody said yeah and we got it done.”

About 6,000 fans are expected to attend Saturday’s game at Mitchel Field, according to Joe Kerrigan of Corrigan Sports.

The SU-Cornell game will also be a homecoming for several Orange players who are from Long Island, including leading scorer Joey Spallina.

Syracuse has 12 players originally from Long Island while Cornell has nine.

Syracuse lacrosse has been involved in Corrigan Sports events the past two seasons.

The Orange played a neutral-site game against Delaware in Chantilly, Virginia last year. That game was also only available via streaming on FloSports.

In 2023, Syracuse played ACC opponent North Carolina in Olney, Maryland. That game was produced by Corrigan Sports and broadcast on ESPNU.

Corrigan, which pays both schools a guaranteed sum of money to participate in its College Lacrosse Live series, uses the pay-per-view model to help with expenses.

“We definitely want these games on our platform,” Kerrigan said. “It helps build the brand of Corrigan Sports Network to have those high-tier games on our network.”

Corrigan Sports, launched in 1991 by former Raycom salesman Lee Corrigan, found its niche by operating events in lacrosse and Baltimore-area endurance races. Its headquarters are based just outside the city in Elkridge, Maryland.

Previous games in this year’s College Lacrosse Live Series included Towson-Virginia, played in Houston; Denver-Duke, played in Dallas; and the Virginia and Maryland women’s teams, played just outside Baltimore.

The SU-Cornell game will also be broadcast on TK99 (99.5 FM) and WAER (88.3 FM) radio and on an audio stream via Cuse.com.

Syracuse.com will also provide live updates of the game.
